Connecting Classrooms Through Song: World Voice Seminar Cardiff

Connecting Classrooms Through Song

29th January 2014 - 10.30am to 4pm

The Welsh Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay, CF10 5AL

The World Voice programme aims to ensure that, through training, collaboration and resources, all young people have the opportunity to use singing to develop their musicality and support wider learning.

This UK event will provide an introduction to, and update on, the World Voice Programme.  An invited audience – including teachers from connecting classroom schools and other organisations involved in education and music education – will have the opportunity to look at the aims of the programme, its resources, the current and planned work overseas and contribute to discussion about the development of activity in the UK – including the setting up of a training programme to support teachers to make the most of the opportunities World Voice can provide to support the British Council's Connecting Classrooms and the International Schools Award programmes.

The day will include:

·        An update on the programmes work to date and plans for the future both overseas and in the UK.

·        Exploration of the repertoire collected in India, Senegal, Ethiopia, Sudan, Argentina, Jordan and across the UK, including a chance to learn songs collected in the countries we are working with our World Voice Champions and our Artistic Director Richard Frostick.

·        Discussion about how best to use the repertoire as a tool for learning about other cultures.

·        The opportunity to help develop a UK-wide training programme for teachers to maximise the value of the World Voice songs and other teaching resources in the context of the British Council's wider educational work.

Attendance at this event is free, although places are limited.  Tea and coffee will be served on arrival and in the afternoon and lunch will also be provided.
