Podium 2014
Podium, Canada's national choral music conference, is taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 15-18 2014.
It is the top meeting place for Canada's choral community and one of the best and most accessible professional development opportunities in the country. This biennial feast of music welcomes choral conductors, music educators, composers, accompanists, administrators, and of course, singers of all ages and stages!
As a delegate, the conference offers an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in four days of workshops, masterclasses, reading sessions, and presentations by conductors and teachers on a variety of prevalent and innovative topics. There is also a cornucopia of concerts, from lunchtime 'spotlight' and evening 'highlight' concerts, to 'soundbite' performances around the downtown, such as on the harbour ferry, in the Public Gardens, at the Museum of the Atlantic, and at Alderney Landing.
Other activities include receptions in beautiful historic buildings, a Podium Pub at a local brewery, and a grand finishing evening to the weekend with a lobster banquet, awards presentation, and live entertainment in true, downhome Maritime fashion!
Choral highlights of Podium 2014 include:
Opening concert featuring Edmonton's Pro Coro (Michael Zaugg) and Halifax's Camerata Singers (Jeff Joudrey)
The 2014 National Youth Choir of Canada, conducted by Halifax native, Hilary Apfelstadt
The Grammy Award-winning Kansas City Chorale, conducted by Charles Bruffy
Two conducting masterclasses, led by Hilary Apfelstadt and Len Ratzlaff
