Call for Expressions of Interest
2014 - 2015 Global Summit in Arts Education

Introduction

1.      World Alliance for Arts Education (WAAE) is a global arts alliance between international arts education organisations:
•    International Drama/Theatre and Education Association (IDEA)
•    International Society for Education through Art (InSEA)
•    International Society for Music Education (ISME)
•    World Dance Alliance (WDA)

2.      WAAE aims to utilize the strength and knowledge within trans-disciplinary, trans- national and trans-cultural arts education associations to the benefit of arts education in the 21st century. WAAE advocates for arts education at strategic political fora and levels, providing expert advice to pertinent key policy and decision makers such as UNESCO
and WHO whilst concomitantly seeking, consulting on and distributing policy through respective networks (see our website at: www.waae.info )

3.      Since WAAE's inaugural gathering in Portugal, 2006, WAAE has worked in partnership with a range of international organisations who have hosted the gathering of world leaders in arts education strategic thinking.  These global summits include:
•    2007    Hong Kong         -     Partners: WAAE; IDEA; Hong Kong Institute of
Contemporary Culture; Hong Kong Government.
•    2008    Taipei                 -     Partners: WAAE; InSEA; National Taiwan Normal
University; Taiwan Government.

The inaugural celebration took place May 21 – 27, 2012 (http://www.unesco.org/new/en/unesco/events/prizes-and- celebrations/celebrations/international-weeks/international-arts-education-week-2012/). In 2013 the Internatonal Arts Education week takes place between May 20 – 26.

Global Partners 2014/2015

5.      Following a highly successful meeting in Rovaniemi Lapland in November 2012 the WAAE is planning a Global Summit for 2014 or 2015 and seek Expressions of Interest from Arts organisations and institutions to work in partnership to host such a summit.

6.      WAAE strategic action groups have focussed on arts education needs in Research, Advocacy, and Networking. The envisioned global summit will build on the work of these action groups to consider: the ways in which the Seoul Agenda has been implemented in local, national, and global contexts; to review the relevance of the development goals for arts education; and, to identify further needs and strategies for the advancement of arts education across the globe.

Calls for Expressions of Interest

7.      The WAAE invites potential partners to work with WAAE in hosting a Global Arts Education Summit that will champion the nature and role of arts education locally, nationally and globally.

8.      We seek a host who will assist in providing the necessary infra-structure to plan, coordinate and fund a gathering of approximately 80 world leaders and strategic thinkers for a 3-day summit in 2014 or 2015.

9.      WAAE offers the weight and profile of its combined alliance representing 100,000s of arts educators and artists.  We will work WITH hosts in raising their profile and addressing local, national and international issues of relevance such as:  pedagogy, curriculum, cultural sustainability, and community engagement.
